The Lockdown Project is a student-run organization that is virtually teaching over 30 children from less-privileged backgrounds from all across the state of Gujarat since August 2020 with the help of over 50 volunteer tutors with 10 volunteer tutors currently active. The Lockdown Project was initially born out as a Model United Nations Conference in April with the goal of helping us connect and make new friends during the pandemic. It was one of the first online Model United Nations Conferences held in India and raised over Rs. 21,000 for Building Dreams Foundation, which worked on ground to sustain the most vulnerable during the initial months of the pandemic.
The connections that we made helped us realize that following a sustained and more direct model would help us make a better and longer-lasting impact on the society. Therefore, in August, after holding a MUN and a couple of informative webinars, we decided to join hands with Ahmedabad-based Visamo Kids Foundation to directly help underprivileged kids continue their education during the pandemic.
